A hands-on practice rooted in curiosity.
My interest in woodworking began in high school, at a time when girls were steered toward home economics instead of wood shop. The desire to work with wood stayed with me. After retirement, I began carving by hand, and that practice gradually led me to create useful objects through woodworking and woodturning.
The name Chipin’ Wood grew out of those early days of hand carving. As my work expanded, the name continued to fit—whether I was carving, building, or turning a piece at the lathe.
I absolutely love working with wood and appreciate the warmth it brings me. There is something deeply satisfying about watching a piece go from a log to a finished form that people can use and appreciate.
I want each piece to reveal the natural beauty and character of the wood while bringing something meaningful to daily life. A bowl, pen, or piece of furniture can be used and enjoyed every day, or simply displayed and appreciated. Either way, I’m happy when the work finds a place in someone’s life.
Respect the material.
Every piece begins with the wood itself—its grain, color, figure, and natural character. I work to choose a form, construction method, and finish that respect those qualities rather than hide them.
Whether a piece is intended for everyday use or quiet display, I want it to feel honest, useful, and made to be appreciated for years to come.
