CHIPIN’ WOOD

Wandering Lines

A spalted tamarind bowl whose winding lines tell a story of natural character and a journey home.

Available

Wandering Lines

I found this piece of spalted tamarind while visiting Boise, Idaho, and brought it home with me to Florida. The wood’s beautiful markings caught my attention, and turning it into a bowl gave me a chance to reveal more of that character.

Dark, wandering lines trace their way across the pale golden wood, branching around the rim and continuing into the interior. Some areas have fine, delicate markings; others show stronger contrasts. There’s something different to notice as you turn the bowl and follow the patterns around its surface.

I kept the form simple, with a gently curved profile and an open interior that lets the spalting stand out. At approximately 5½ inches in diameter and 1¾ inches high, Wandering Lines is a compact piece that fits comfortably on a side table, shelf, or entryway console.
